Frances Lewis Obituary

Frances Louise Wetzel Lewis (nee Selby), 93, died peacefully of natural causes on February 11, 2025.

Frances, a long-time resident of Frames Road in West Inverness before moving to Briarwood Estates off Cove Road, was born in Frederick County moving to Baltimore City then eventually Dundalk. Frances was a devoted member of the Dundalk Church of the Nazarene. Previously, she was a member of Patapsco United Methodist Church. She was an avid square dancer with the Bayside Promenaders and Solo Stars, to name a few. She enjoyed organizing and attending dances all over the Baltimore area. In addition, she enjoyed going to the Ateaze Senior Center for fellowship, exercise and volunteer work. For years, Frances was involved in Al-Anon and Nar-Anon, starting local chapters to help counsel those in need.

Frances held a variety of jobs throughout her life. She never shied away from hard work, and she always said one of her most satisfying jobs was her work as a Baltimore County school bus attendant for children with special needs. The children brought a smile to her face. When not working, Frances loved to travel, having made several trips across the country. Later in her life, Frances could be found at home challenging friends and family to card games or putting puzzles together. Frances loved her family and enjoyed any type of get-together over the years including birthday parties, family reunions and holiday celebrations. She spent many Easter weekends camping with her children and grandchildren at Killens Pond Campground in DE. In her final years she enjoyed hearing about her grandchildren and great children and looking at pictures of all of them. Visits with her daughters and their families were especially special to her and them.

Frances’ family would like to thank the staff of Complete Care at Heritage in Dundalk for the 2 ½ years of loving care they provided to our mom.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years Donald Wetzel and her husband Alonzo Lewis, her son Richard Wetzel, and her grandson Jason Atkinson. She is survived by daughters Katherine Atkinson (Robert) of Blades, Delaware; Dorthy Crocker (Eugene) of Pylesville, Maryland; Barbara Mills (Michael) of Georgetown, Delaware; and daughter-in-law Gloria Wetzel of Dundalk. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025 with a visitation from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the funeral home, where a service will be celebrated promptly at 12 noon. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in her memory to Dundalk Church of the Nazarene (1626 Lynch Road, Dundalk, MD 21222), Ateaze Senior Center (7401 Holabird Ave., Dundalk, MD 21222), or Al Anon or Nar Anon programs.
