Joan Wallis Kettell Greenwood August 15, 1941- January 17, 2026
Joan Wallis Kettell Greenwood, age 84, passed away peacefully in her home on January 17, 2026. Joan was born on August 15, 1941 to Mildred and Henry (Wallis) Kettell. She was predeceased by her husband, Terry Greenwood, with whom she shared almost 50 years of marriage and family, and more than 50 years of love and devotion. She is survived by her children Terry Greenwood Jr. and his wife Robyne, Denise Rogers and her husband Gary, Joann Shannahan and her husband Kevin and Mary Greenwood, the surviving spouse of her son Ronnie Greenwood who predeceased her in March of 2021. Joan was the proud grandmother of Tabitha Ebert Lamartina, Logan Shannahan, Brandon Ebert, Connor Greenwood, Devon Shannahan, Ashton Greenwood, Nicklaus Greenwood and Owen and Chad Rogers. She was the proud great grandmother of Mallory, Abby, Lilliana, Rosalee, Carson, Freddie, Sonny and Ariella. She is also survived by her loving sister, Jean Kettell Gable and her daughter Joylyn. Jean and Joan shared a wonderful childhood in Edgemere on the water where they loved to go fishing every day. Joan worked as a housewife in the early years of family life and then worked for container companies at the port of Baltimore. In the early 80’s, Joan and Terry became the owners of Gail’s Showbar and Restaurant, and later on helped manage Ford’s Inn, which had been owned by Terry’s father, Ford Greenwood. Joan was deeply involved in school and recreational programs for both her children and grandchildren. She was involved with the Gray Charles Rec program with football and baseball leagues and played on the women’s softball team as the pitcher. Joan loved her sports teams, including the Ravens and the Baltimore Colts, but nothing would compare to her love for the Baltimore Orioles, for which she had hoped to attend spring training. Joan and Terry loved travelling to visit family in Ohio and in Florida. Many summers were spent in Lake Worth, Florida and Bridgeport, Ohio. Vacations were spent on the beach, going fishing and riding as many rides as they could at amusement parks. An occasional trip to Monkey Jungle and Parrot Jungle, as well as Lion Country Safari may have possibly influenced the purchase of one or two baby alligators to bring home (legally back then). Later in life, Joan and Terry began travelling to Las Vegas, Cancun and most importantly, Freeport in the Bahamas. The occasional Freeport Fling 4 day trip, turned into a deeply rooted love for the island, where Joan lived several months a year, even after Terry had passed. She had many friends in the Bahamas and many friends from Edgemere/Sparrows Point that she took with her to enjoy her home in the Bahamas. Joan was a devoted member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Edgemere and attended services with Pastor Moses, whom she loved and made sure she got a hug from each week. Besides working in her backyard in her gardens and swimming in her pool, she enjoyed having family parties on holidays and birthdays, having lunch dates with her childhood school friends, playing Phase 10 with her grandchildren (who would always Skip Mom Mom), and building puzzles with them as well. She showed up for dance recitals, soccer games, graduations from high schools and colleges and every other activity her family participated in. She was so proud of everyone in her family and was happy to share one more Christmas with all of them. A viewing will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026 from 1-4pm at Bradley-Ashton-Kehl Funeral Home, 2134 Willow Spring Road in Dundalk. A service will be held at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Edgemere Volunteer Fire Department in Joan’s memory are appreciated.
