Juanita Locklear, 51, a Lumbee Indian native toBaltimore, MD, passed away on Monday, July 3rd,2023. She was born on Saturday, November 17th,1971 in Baltimore, MD, to the late Loretta Hunt Freeman & Hugh Locklear.
Juanita was confined to a nursing home since2010, but prior she attended nursing school and enjoyed watching movies and television,attending church, and spending time with her family in Baltimore. Juanita loved the culinary arts and made one of the finest lasagnas known to man. She was described as straightforward, had a great sense of humor, and was known by many as beautiful and intelligent.
Juanita will be forever remembered & missed by her legal guardian Sam Freeman, widower of Loretta Hunt Freeman, who faithfully fulfilled his role as her spokesperson for the last 10 years,especially in regards to her medical care and post-mortem arrangements. She will also be remembered & missed by her father and his wife,Hugh Locklear & Victoria Baker; her sister Mary Hunt; her children, David Smith, the late Ricky Chavis Jr., Carlie Chavis, and Taylor Chavis; & her grandchildren, Tayden Pilone-Smith, Tayah Pilone-Smith, Harlem King Valentin, Michael Zaiden Valentin, Emrie Nevaeh Chavis, her cousin,Tomalita Locklear Peterson; & many other cousins & family members.
