Nancy R. Coleman, formerly of Dundalk, lost her battle with Huntington's Disease on Friday, May 5, at the Ridgeway Manor Nursing Center in Catonsville. Nancy was born on June 14, 1942 in Riegelsville, PA. In 1948 she moved with her family to Dundalk when her father, Rev. R. Henry Neikirk, was called to be pastor of St. Timothy's Lutheran Church. She graduated from Dundalk High School in 1960 and Frostburg State College in 1964. Nancy then began a long career of public service in Baltimore County. From 1964 to 1970 she taught kindergarten at Patapsco Neck Elementary School. In 1974 she became an aide to Councilman John W. O'Rourke and assisted with legislative and constituent matters until 1979 when she began working with the Department of Aging. During her career she assisted in managing the Essex, Edgemere, Ateaze and Bykota Senior Centers. With the onset of her disease she retired in 2001.
Nancy was an active member of St. Timothy's, as well as several community organizations. During Dundalk's Bicentennial celebration in 1976 she met her future husband, Russel E. Coleman, Sr., while working at the first Heritage Fair. Nancy and Russ married in 1977, and they continued helping at the Heritage Fair for many years. They also enjoyed spending time at their cabin on Broad Creek near Conowingo. Russ passed away in 1992.
Nancy is survived by stepchildren Russ Coleman, Jr. (Terri), Sean (Janet) and Regan Obryan (Dennis), eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and her father, she was predeceased by her mother and two brothers. The Family will receive friends on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at New LIght Lutheran Church, 2120 Dundalk Avenue, Dundalk, Md 21222. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Contributions in Nancy's memory may be made to New Light Lutheran Church.
